1. Who we are

2. The short version
The app has no account, advertising, cross-app tracking or custom analytics. It does not send us precise location, search text, favourites, reminder choices or a history of mosques a person visits. Nearest-mosque ranking and search happen on the device against a common downloaded Greater London directory.
The app stores preferences and bounded public mosque/timetable cache entries locally. Users can clear local app data in Settings. Apple, rather than us, processes App Store subscription payment details.
3. Information processed on the device
Location and search
With permission, iOS supplies precise location while the app is in use. The app temporarily holds the latest coordinate in memory to calculate approximate straight-line distances to public mosque coordinates. The coordinate is not included in an API request, analytics event, log, cache file or widget snapshot. The app does not create a location history.
Searches are matched locally against the downloaded directory. Search text is not sent to our service or saved as search history. Users can deny location and browse or search manually.
Preferences, reminders, favourites and widgets
Appearance, clock format, onboarding state, selected madhhab, notification choices, reflection-reminder schedules and favourite public mosque IDs use Apple-provided device storage. Qibla and compass-quality checks run on the device.
The app and widget share a bounded public-data snapshot with no coordinate. If the companion Watch app is installed, the iPhone sends at most three already-ranked public mosque records through Apple's paired-device connection. It sends no coordinate, distance, search, favourite state, identity, device identifier or usage history to the Watch or our server.
Notification text can be visible on the Lock Screen according to the user's iOS settings.
Cache and Apple backups
Public directory and timetable caches are protected, excluded from backup, limited to 8 MiB and 128 entries, and pruned by age and least-recent use. Directory data cannot be used after 7 days and timetable data after 48 hours. Widget and Watch snapshots cannot be used after 7 days. Expired records are removed at the next opportunity when the app or extension runs.
Apple may include preferences, favourites or widget state in an encrypted device backup, depending on the user's settings. We do not receive or control that backup.
4. Network processing
Every client downloads the same public directory. A timetable request uses a stable public mosque record ID. Our application does not create request logs, retain requested IDs or build a mosque-activity profile.
Cloudflare provides DNS, HTTPS delivery, security, Workers hosting and D1 database services. It necessarily processes the connecting IP address, requested URL and basic connection/security metadata to route and protect a request. Worker invocation logs and traces are disabled; our code does not read or store IP addresses or user agents. We monitor only aggregate availability, latency, volume, error and database-health measures without mosque IDs or consumer identifiers.
Cloudflare may retain limited network and security metadata for its service and security purposes under its privacy policy and customer data-processing terms. Cloudflare operates globally, including in the UK, EEA and United States, and uses safeguards for international transfers.
Our lawful basis for strictly necessary delivery, security and abuse prevention is our legitimate interest in providing a secure and reliable read-only public service. We do not use this basis for advertising, tracking, religious profiling or behavioural analytics.
5. What we do not collect through the app
- No account, name, email address or persistent device identifier.
- No server-side precise or coarse location, search history, favourites, prayer habits or mosque attendance.
- No contacts, photos, files, messages or in-app form submissions.
- No advertising identifier, product-interaction analytics or crash analytics.
- No health, payment-card or government-identification data.
Apple processes subscription eligibility, purchase, renewal, cancellation and refunds. The app receives only Apple-verified entitlement state. We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising.
6. Support and correction requests
The app has no embedded support form. If a user emails us, Cloudflare Email Routing forwards the public domain alias to the controller's restricted mailbox. We process the sender's email address, message and voluntarily supplied information to answer the request, correct or remove public data, prevent abuse and keep a minimal case record.
Send only what is necessary. Please do not include prayer habits, precise location, identity documents or other sensitive information.
Support and correction emails are normally deleted within 12 months after the case is closed. A minimal record may be retained longer where reasonably required for legal claims, security or to record a completed public-data correction/removal, and is reviewed periodically. Request earlier deletion at hello@masjidnearme.app, subject to legal or security needs.
7. External services
The app opens Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, telephone calls, mosque websites, public social profiles and support only after the user chooses the action. Those services have their own terms and privacy notices.
8. Religious context and children
Use of a mosque app can reveal or allow an inference about religious belief. The service is deliberately designed not to create a server-side usage history. A data-protection impact assessment is retained and must be reviewed before adding analytics, accounts, personalisation, user content or server-side location/search.
The app is not designed to collect personal data from anyone, including children. A parent or guardian can contact us about a child's support correspondence.
9. Security, retention and deletion
Local caches use iOS file protection, atomic writes, limits and automatic expiry. Users can choose Settings → Clear local app data or uninstall. Clearing does not cancel an Apple subscription. The production API uses HTTPS, is read-only, applies least privilege and returns generic errors. No security measure is absolute.
10. Rights and complaints
Because the app retains no user-linked app records, we will often have no identifiable app record to retrieve. Where we do process personal data, UK law may provide rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and complaint. Contact hello@masjidnearme.app. We will not ask for unnecessary identification.
Users may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office without affecting other rights.
11. Changes
We date material changes and update the in-app notice, this page and App Store privacy answers where necessary. We will not add custom analytics, tracking or server-side location/search processing without a fresh legal, privacy and technical review.
